Westfield Awarded CDBG Funding For East Main Street Water Improvements
The Town of Westfield has been awarded a $553,750 Community Development Block Grant for new water transmission mains on East Main Street. Supervisor Martha Bills announced the award at the Town Board meeting held last Wednesday evening.
Bills explained that the Town had been attempting to get funding for the improvements for several years. “We’re very excited that the grant came through,” said Bills. “The residents in that area have been very patient.”
A total of 3,200 linear feet of 10 inch water main and service connections in proposed. Currently, the area has an array of different water lines of varying capacities, some of which are severely deteriorated and can not provide adequate, safe, potable water to residents.
This area is plagued with high bedrock and limited well production due to low water tables.
