Professors say they can't endorse University of Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — More than 400 academics from dozens of universities have signed a letter condemning the University of Rochester's response to sexual misconduct allegations against a professor.

The letter says the faculty members cannot "in good conscience" encourage students to study or work at the western New York university. They say its leadership didn't adequately respond to claims of predatory behavior by Professor T. Florian Jaeger until the claims were made public in a complaint to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The university's response says it investigated the claims when they were raised and has since launched a new investigation into issues raised in the EEOC filing.

The initial investigation cleared Jaeger. He's said he can't comment because of the legal action.

The university's statement Wednesday says it's committed to a safe, respectful campus.
