‘Tarzan’ will be swinging into Westfield

March 12, 2015

Each year as western New Yorkers are awaiting signs of spring, hundreds of students, volunteers and school personnel are hard at work preparing school musicals. This year audiences have a new opportunity. On Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m., at Westfield Academy and Central School a fresh performance is scheduled.

The school is hard at work on stage, and in practice to take the audience into the jungle. Tarzan is swinging into Westfield. "Tarzan," the stage musical based on the Disney film, will be performed for the first time in Western New York. Disney Theatrical Productions originally produced the musical on Broadway. The music and lyrics are by Phil Collins and the book is by David Henry Hwang. The work is adapted from the story "Tarzan of the Apes" by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Kent Knappenberger directs the show with music, staging and choreography by Emma Bishop, Brittany Steeg, and Westfield students Brittany Soto and Kaitlyn Meegan. Musical direction will be by Helen Ihasz. WACS is noted for its ability to combine the talents of students and staff for outstanding and award winning entertainment.

Tickets are available pre-sale (recommended) by calling 326-2151. They will also be available at the door.
