DAR holds meeting for month of May

The McClurg Mansion is Westfield, NY was the location of the May meeting of the Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Regent Mercy Warren and Ann Wood presided over the opening ritual, after which the President General's Message was read. Chapters are encouraged to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the founding of the DAR which will occur on Oct. 11,2015 by completing special service projects. The message further reported that the DAR and have partnered to provide resources to teachers to aid in exploring the lives of soldiers and others who worked to secure independence during the Revolutionary War.

The article in the National Defender spoke of the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. The Cyber Patriot Education Program was founded by the Air Force Association to promote studies in aerospace, math, engineering, cyberspace and related fields. The DAR awards medals to encourage future military and civic leaders.

Regent Warren is continuing to coordinate plans with government leaders in Westfield for the Viet Nam Veterans Commemoration which will be held Aug. 2, 2015.

Several members attended the Dist. VIII workshop on April 11, 2015 in Getzville, NY.

The Chapter has nominated the same slate of officers who currently serve: Mercy Warren, Regent: Antoniette Sherman, Vice Regent: Carol Abell, Corresponding and Recording Secretary: Phyllis Noble, Treasurer: Kari Wendel, Chaplain: Dawn Ubandy, Registrar: and Lisa Sedlmayer, Historian.

Roxanne Wood was hostess this month.

The next meeting will be at the McClurg on June 4, 2015 at 1 PM. Any woman interested in becoming a member may contact Dawn Ubaney 716-679-1218 for information on establishing eligibility.
