Reflective address signs are available to Brocton and Portland fire district residents now through Oct. 31. Signs can assist anyone from a postal carrier to a responding fire or ambulance responder. Above is a new sign placed at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Brocton.

Address sign project coordinator and longtime member of the Brocton Fire Department, Gary Magnuson noted address signs aren't just to enhance safety and assist first responders with finding your home, although "they do enable us to find you quicker."

"These signs are really for multipurpose use. These can also be utilized by your FedEx or UPS delivery drivers, your postal carriers, really anyone needing to easily locate your address. We would like to see as many people take advantage of these as are interested," Magnuson added.

Signs are for sale at a cost of $15 and applications for the signs can be filled out at either the village clerk's office in the village of Brocton, or the Portland Town Clerk's office at Portland Town Hall. Once the application is completed by the resident, payment can be made at the clerk's office with the application, checks made payable to the Brocton Fire Department. Once the department receives the application, Magnuson will personally install the sign at the address.

Residents residing in Brocton's fire district can purchase red signs, while those residing in Portland's district will be designated by a green sign. A new sign was recently placed at the Waste Water Treatment Plant at 176 Lake Ave. in Brocton, should any residents want to view the sign for an example. Residents should inquire at either clerk's office during their regular business hours for more information.
