Lady Bulldogs win two, drop one in West 2 action

BROCTON, May 16- Frewsburg used a seven-run top of the sixth inning to rally from a 3-1 deficit en route to an 8-3 win over Brocton (4-8) Saturday, during CCAA West 2 softball action at Brocton High School.

Winning pitcher MaKena Adams chipped in a two-run triple in the decisive sixth while Morgan Anderson added an RBI of her own, as the Bears utilized a few errors by the Lady Bulldogs to pull ahead and earn the win.

Adams finished the game allowing three runs on two hits while striking out 14 and walking three.

Brocton jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the home half of the first on an RBI single by Elise Miller, an RBI ground out off the bat of losing pitcher Jess Merle and an error that chased Miller home.

Merle allowed eight runs on six hits while striking out 15 and walking four in a complete-game effort. Aside from Miller, Logan Kelley had a single for the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth.

Sherman 5, Brocton 4

SHERMAN, May 15- A four-run fifth inning fueled the Sherman Lady Wildcats to a 5-4 victory over Brocton (4-7- on Thursday in CCAA West 2 high school softball.

"We just had too many mental errors that pretty much cost us the game," Brocton coach Julie Arnold said. "We weren't smart on the bases and didn't run like we know how to. Credit to them, they played good defense."

In just her second varsity game, Brocton's Jenny Potter pitched a solid game as she gave up five hits and no walks with one strikeout.

The Lady Bulldogs scored a run in the third, a run in the fourth, a run in the fifth and one in the seventh. They also had the tying run on third base with two outs in the top of the seventh.

Elise Miller had a single while Jess Merle and Logan Kelley each had two hits in defeat. Abby Van Hout recorded an RBI in a losing effort.

Brocton 7, Panama 6

BROCTON, May 13- With the score tied, 6-all, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Jess Merle scored the game-winning run on an error to give the Brocton Lady Bulldogs (4-6) a thrilling 7-6 victory in CCAA West 2 high school softball.

Merle led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk and promptly stole second. She moved to third on a sacrifice fly. With one out, Jenna Jusko hit a roller back to the Panama pitcher. The pitcher's throw to first base went over the first baseman's head, allowing Merle to trot home for the winning run.

Brocton held a 5-0 lead in the third, but Panama fought back.

Sabrina Ruiz, Elise Miller and Kaitlin Murphy each had two hits for the Lady Bulldogs while Merle had two hits, including a three-run homer in the third inning.

"We settled down after the third inning and played solid team defense and it paid off in the end," Brocton coach Julie Arnold said.

Merle was the winning pitcher as she struck out 15, gave up six hits and four walks.
