Laura Miele's dream of being a shop owner came true Saturday afternoon as she presented her new boutique, Timeless Treasures, to the public.

From noon-7 p.m., Miele held a grand opening for the unique shop, inviting the community to view her hand-picked products, enjoy finger foods and take advantage of a storewide 10 percent discount.

"It's just a chance for me to get to know people, and for them to get to know me," she said. "(Opening a shop) has been something I have always wanted to do."

Miele was originally from Rockaway Beach in Queens, but moved to the area after she met her husband, Aldo, in 1992.

They have two children, Matthew and Michelle, with whom Miele has stayed home with for the past 16 years. Recently, she said it was time for a change, and she dove into business ownership with passion and zeal.

Her husband found the location in September and worked on it through the winter, refurbishing the space into a chic boutique with something for everyone, Miele said.

With such a supportive community for local business, she said she was happy to open up shop in Chautauqua County.

"Everyone has their own specialties, and they all do such a great job. This is a strong area for entrepreneurs, and they make Chautauqua Lake beautiful," Miele said.

"I'm just happy to be a part of it."

The shop holds a plethora of goods, from antique accent pieces, items from Karma, a line of vibrant accessories, jewelry, local artisan products and more.

"I hand pick everything," Miele said. "I have to be proud of what I am displaying. It's a lot of unique, one-of-a-kind goods."

The shop offers a wide range of items that are fair trade, Miele said, which is something she thinks is important.

She added that the store will be open from April until December, seven days a week. During the weekend, the store is currently open Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. During the week, the shop will open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., while on Wednesday, the shop will be open from noon to 6 p.m.

The shop is located at 4457 W. Lake Road in Mayville.

"It's a great place (to visit) if you need something for yourself, or a gift for someone else," Miele said. "I want to be here for what my customers need, and I am always open for suggestions. I want to be in this area, and do a good job for those who want to come shop with us."
