Filling a need and striving toward a healthier community

August 27, 2015
By Todd J. Tranum - President and CEO of the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce & Executive Director of the Manufacturers Association of the Sout , Westfield Republican

Each time we look at our Five Point Focus, we are reminded how crucial our initiatives and services are as we strive to help build stronger businesses and communities in Chautauqua County. Among those points is our ongoing effort to contain health insurance costs through proactive solutions. We are incredibly proud of the work we do to help align businesses and their employees with the right insurance products to suit their needs.

Our staff has worked hard to stay on top of all of the many changes that have taken place in the world of health insurance over the past couple of years. Now you have more options than ever before to get the coverage you need at a price you can afford.

We strongly encourage all Chamber members to attend one of our Health Insurance Information and Open Enrollment sessions coming up in September. These sessions are designed to provide an overview of all options available for businesses of all sizes including sole proprietors, small groups, experience rated groups and self-insured groups. Our knowledgeable team including Craig Colburn of the Chamber of Commerce and Andy Pascarella of Lawley Benefits Group will review plan options at the information sessions. Four sessions are already scheduled:

- Tuesday, Sept. 22, 7:30 a.m. at the MTI Building at JCC in Jamestown

- Tuesday, Sept. 22, 6:30 p.m. at the MTI Building at JCC in Jamestown

- Thursday, Sept. 24, 7:30 a.m. at the JCC North Training Center in Dunkirk

- Thursday, Sept. 24, 6:30 p.m. at the JCC North Training Center in Dunkirk

Additional sessions will be planned at other points in the county. Our goal is to make these events as convenient as possible.

The forums are sponsored by KeyBank, Lawley Insurance, and Univera Healthcare. They are free to attend, but we encourage all to register so that we can plan ahead for the number of attendees. You can register online through our web site at www.chautauquachamber. org or by calling 484-1101 or 366-6200.

Boardsmanship Training Workshop Sept. 11

Whether you are currently a member of a Board of Directors or are considering getting involved in one, we encourage you to take advantage of a special upcoming training workshop on how to be a better board member. The Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present a special training workshop on Boardsmanship, Friday, Sept. 11, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Falcon's Nest Banquet Hall, East Main Street in Falconer.

Chris Yates of Hutton Associates has an extensive background, having served on several boards of directors including Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau, Chautauqua Lake Association, WCA Hospital Foundation and others. He will spend this time sharing insights on what it means to serve on a board. Topics will include the role of the board and its members, hiring staff, vision and mission, budgeting, and nurturing diversity.

Join the Chamber for this morning of good food and useful information. The cost is just $12. You may register online at www.chautauquachamber.org/events or call the Chamber at 366-6200 or 484-1101.
