Town of Westfield has political problems

Dear Editor:

I'm writing this letter to the editor to express my concern to what is going on in the town of Westfield. I run several small businesses in the town of Westfield and am also a property owner in the village of Westfield. I am questioning the way the political atmosphere is in the town.

In our town there is a township and a village. If you live in the village you can vote in both the township and the village, but if you live in the township you cannot vote in the village. I feel this is unfair to township people. At the present time we only have one trustee that lives in the town and the rest reside in the village. I feel it is unfair that village people are controlling what happens in our township.

It has also come to my attention that the current town supervisor is being supported by both the Democratic and Republican parties. That leaves anyone wishing to run against the current town supervisor unable to be put on the ballot supported by either major party. This should not happen in a free society.

I am also concerned with the way the town and the village is being run. I am a fairly large taxpayer both in the village and the town. At present time, our township buys rental property in the village of Westfield. Personally I don't feel any town or village should own property. The town is renting a property which competes against me since I own rental offices in the village of Westfield. I feel the town has an unfair advantage because they do not pay property tax on their building and I pay 100 percent of my tax.

The town of Westfield bought the above mentioned building without a referendum from the tax payers which I also feel is another unfair practice.
