Soccer program brings pride to the community

November 19, 2015
Westfield Republican

I just want to congratulate Jay Pikiewicz and the Westfield-Brocton boys' varsity soccer team on another amazing season and, especially, on receiving the Sportsmanship award again. It says so much about the expectations of a coach and the character of the players when that award is received so consistently and so often over many years. It comes as no surprise, then, that Mr. Pikiewicz also received the Coach of the Year award for, I believe, the eighth time in his coaching career. The team, the coach, and the program in general, are outstanding. I believe that kudos also belong to the boys' modified team's coach, Lon Knappenberger, who initiates the expectation of good sportsmanship and teamwork in his teams. Congratulations to the teams, the coaches, the parents, and the loyal fans. This is the kind of program that can and should legitimately bring pride to a community.
