Clymer boys lose home-and-home series to Southwestern

Southwestern 64, Clymer 48

LAKEWOOD (Dec. 7) - Ben Burk scored a career high to pace Southwestern (2-1) to a home-and-home sweep of visiting Clymer (0-2) in non-league boys basketball.

Burk scored 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Trojans stopped Clymer, 64-48 on Monday night.

Niko Pannes added 16 points for the winners, who had a 24-5 second quarter for a 37-15 halftime spread.

Nick Cooper had six assists, Alex Card and Faison Munir had four assists apiece, and Brendan Kennedy added seven rebounds for the Trojans.

Adam Honey tallied 20 points for Clymer, which had a 23-9 advantage in the third period to pull within, 46-38. The Trojans then used an 18-10 fourth quarter to wrap it up.

Southwestern made 22 of 47 for 47 percent while Clymer was 20 of 49 for 41 percent.

From the foul line, Southwestern connected on 11 of 15 for 73 percent and Clymer made only 3 of 11 for 27 percent.

CLYMER (Dec. 1) - Southwestern scored the final eight points of the game to give boys basketball coach Mark Sleggs a victory in his second stint as varsity mentor Tuesday night.

Ben Burk and Nico Pannes had field goals and Nick Cooper was 4 for 4 from the foul line as the Trojans held on to beat Clymer, 51-43, in non-league action.

Burk scored nine of his 19 points in the first quarter as the Trojans took a 15-9 lead. They extended that to a 24-11 margin at halftime.

The Pirates battled back and eventually took a 38-35 lead in the fourth quarter before the Trojans rallied to pull it out. A 27-11 run brought the Pirates from behind.

Adam Honey had 15 of his 19 points in the second half for the Pirates. Pannes led the Trojans with 12 of his 18 points after intermission.

Rebounding saw the Trojans in front, 27-20, with Pannes having seven rebounds and Brendan Kennedy grabbing five. Dylan Davis had six rebounds and Justin Svetz pulled down five in the loss.

Both teams committed 18 turnovers and the Trojans made 11 of 15 from the foul line compared to the hosts' 3 of 6.
