BROCTON (Dec. 14) - The Panama Panthers handed the Brocton Bulldogs their first loss of the season, 56-42, in the CCAA West 2 boys basketball divisional opener for both teams Monday night.

Panama (2-2, 1-0) surged to a 26-5 lead in the first quarter and cruised to the win from there, although the Bulldogs (5-1, 0-1) outscored the visitors 29-18 over the middle two periods to make the game closer.

"They came out hot and we came out a little sluggish," Brocton coach Matt Seiberg said. "Anytime you give up 26 in the first and aren't scoring with them, it's tough coming back. But we continued to fight. We ended up cutting (the deficit) to eight in the fourth, but didn't get it any closer than that.

"There were too many mental mistakes to start off, but I was proud my kids clawed their way back into it," he added.

Brocton's Aaron Riforgiato led all scorers with 17 points. He grabbed 10 rebounds as well. The Bulldogs' Steven Krystofiak had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Alec Chelton contributed four points and four assists.
