Daryl Thayer

Daryl Raymond Thayer, 67 years old, of Ellicott Road in Portland, New York, passed away Monday morning, December 21, 2015 at the Gowanda Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Gowanda, New York after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Westfield, New York on December 10, 1948 to the late Raymond and Evelyn Brown Thayer and has lived in this area his entire life. Daryl was a 1969 graduate of Brocton Central School. He also served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Daryl was employed for many years as a truck driver for Dan Heil Transportation.

He is a former member of The Westfield Moose and The American Legion John W. Dill Post 434 of Brocton, New York. Besides spending time with his family, Daryl enjoyed farming.

Daryl is survived by his wife of 36 years, Debra Thayer and two daughters Mrs. Melissa (Tony) Jones of Monroe, North Carolina and Mrs. Christine Fregosi also of Monroe, North Carolina, five grandchildren: Jennifer Robinson, Aaron Robinson, Derek Jones, Michael DuPrey and Nicholas Fregosi, one sister Mrs. Sharon (Ronald) Couchman of Fredonia, New York, three nephews and one niece. Besides his parents he was predeceased by one niece, Julie Ann Beyer.

Funeral arrangements took place on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015 at 1 p.m. from the Morse Funeral Home, 51 Highland Ave. in Brocton, New York. The Rev. Larry Morrison of the Brocton Baptist Church officiated. Interment followed at the Portland Evergreen Cemetery. Full military honors were accorded Daryl by the American Legion John W. Dill Post 434 of Brocton, New York. Friends were invited to call at the Morse Funeral Home on Saturday, Dec.26, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
