Amish buggy accident sends teen to hospital

SHERMAN - An Amish buggy accident sent a teenager to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa.

Sheriff's deputies and the Sherman Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident on Alder Bottom Road in Sherman at 12:15 a.m. Dec. 28.

Upon arrival, the 18-year-old male operator stated that the horse pulling the buggy had become "spooked."

The male lost control of the buggy and jumped from it.

While pursuing the buggy on foot, he located the 17-year-old female passenger unresponsive in the roadway. The female was transported to Hamot Medical Center by Sherman ambulance for treatment of her injuries.

An investigation into the accident is continuing. The victims' names were not released.
