Hans-Georg Wiemer

Hans-Georg Max Wiemer, 87, of West Lake Road, Mayville, died December 31, 2015, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 4, 1928 in Kaukehman, Germany, son of the late Max and Betty Kiupel Wiemer.

He was Safety Engineer for Crescent Tool in Jamestown, and a Mechanical Engineer for Clevite in Cleveland, OH from 1957 to 1966 helping to build the Apollo Space Fuel Cells. Hans and Ursula owned and operated Photography by Wiemer from 1968 - 1980 and were fondly remembered in photographing more then 200 weddings in the area. In 1970 Hans and Ursula started Modern Cottages by Wiemer, a small cottage rental operation here on Lake Chautauqua. Hans and family partnered in purchasing We Wan Chu Cottages next door to their home in 1979 and We Wo Ka Cottages in 1980. 2015 marked 45 years of family vacations being hosted by Hans, Ursula and family on the shores of Lake Chautauqua.

Hans was a member of the Hurlbut Memorial United Methodist Church in Chautauqua, The Power Squadron, and Chautauqua Fire Department where he was a former EMT on the Rescue Squad, and he was also a member of the Ski Patrol at the former Eagle Ridge Ski Resort.

Hans was an avid reader; he enjoyed photography, world traveling, boating, snorkeling, his dogs, Christmas cookies and desserts. He loved everybody especially his family. He also absolutely adored his wife.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ursula Heinzel Wiemer whom he married October 24, 1953; three children, Marion (Frank) Oliva of Westfield, Peter Hans (Kathleen) Wiemer of Mayville, and Barb (Bruce) Davis of Mayville; nine grandchildren, Christopher and Michael Oliva, Jenna, Justin, and Jessica Wiemer, Cassie (Jamie) Farrell, Alex (Carly) Davis, Jacob and Elizabeth Davis; one great grandson, Jackson Farrell; one sister, Rosemary Heineman.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Irmi Hanke.

A Private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Pastor John Bowen will officiate. Burial will be in the Chautauqua Cemetery.

The family received friends from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville.
