A 25-year-old man is facing charges after the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department, Westfield Police Department and the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force found an elaborate methamphetamine manufacturing system at 8004 Felton Road on Thursday, Jan. 7.

According to sheriff's deputies, the system was set up in a detached shed on the property. As a result of the initial discovery, authorities obtained a search warrant for the property and located further evidence of the methamphetamine production.

During the course of the investigation, Tyler S. Best was charged with one count of third-degree unlawfully manufacturing methamphetamine.

Best was arraigned in the Portland Town Court and then subsequently committed to the Chautauqua County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 property bond pending further action by the court.

Due to the toxic nature of the items recovered during the investigation the New York State Police were called to the scene to collect evidence and dispose of the hazardous waste.

Approximately seven and one half ounces of methamphetamine oil were seized and secured into evidence as a result of this investigation.

Additional charges of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance will be brought against Best after the methamphetamine oil has been analyzed by the laboratory.

Authorities continue to ask that members of the community call when they observe narcotics related activity in their area at either 800-344-8702 of 363-0313.
