Jewell, Bigelow named Students of the Month for Brocton district

BROCTON - The Brocton Central School District has announced that Kasen Jewell and Devin Bigelow have been selected as the December Students of the Month.


Kasen was selected by the Brocton High School faculty and staff. He is a junior at Brocton High School. Kasen lives in Brocton with his mother Jodi Huber and stepfather Neil Huber. He is also the son of Wade Jewell and stepmother Christine Mittner.

Kasen participates in many activities including varsity soccer, spring travel soccer and Ski Club. He also participates in band, Pep band, Jazz band and the school newspaper.

Kasen's academic achievements include High Honor Roll and National Honor Society.

Kasen's favorite subjects are technology in music and chemistry.

Outside of school Kasen volunteers for the Darren Manzell-Lapiera Memorial Run and runs several 5Ks for fundraising. He also participated in the Ride for Roswell and enjoys playing the guitar.

After graduating he is interested in going to college and studying engineering.

"Kasen is a very conscientious student. He is polite, has a great sense of humor and always completes his homework. He is also one of my strongest writers for the Brocton Review, our school's newspaper. I am fortunate to have him on my writing staff," said Rose Carr, English teacher at BCS.


Devin was selected by the Brocton Middle School faculty and staff as Student of the Month for December, 2015. Devin is an eighth grade student at Brocton Middle School. Devin lives in Portland with his father John Bigelow.

Devin participates in modified basketball and says, "This is my second year playing basketball and I really enjoy it."

Devin's academic achievements include Honor Roll and Merit Roll in which he received recognition in the local newspaper.

Devin's favorite subject is Social Studies.

Outside of school Devin works on his uncle's farm. He is also proud to say that he bought his first truck at the age of 14!

After graduating he is interested in going to college and studying welding.

"Devin is such a pleasant student, very polite, always tries hard with his work, listens in class, and opens doors for people," said Julie Obert, teacher assistant at BCS.
