Ruth Horner

Ruth Blank Horner, 89, passed away in Wilmington, North Carolina, on Wednesday, January 13, 2016.

She was born on November 20, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, but considered Fredonia, New York, her hometown.

She was the daughter of the late Warren and Abbie Blodgett. She graduated from Fredonia High School in 1943 and Allegheny College in 1946. She took graduate courses at SUNY to obtain her teaching credentials, enabling her to teach elementary school for many years at Brocton Central School.

Ruth and her first husband, William Blank, owned and operated grape vineyards on West Main Road in Fredonia. Upon retirement, Ruth and Bill moved to Pawleys Island, South Carolina, where Ruth worked as the manager of "Christmas at Pawleys" at the Hammock Shops for several years, and then as the first secretary of St. Peter's Lutheran Church until her husband's illness.

In June 1996, Ruth married George C. Horner and they have been residing in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.

Ruth is survived by her husband, George; two daughters: Rebecca Blank of Pawleys Island; Bonnie Liposchak (Paul) of Wilmington, NC; a son, William Blank (Nancy), of Wilmington, NC; three step-daughters: Adrienne Leary, of Amherst,; Allison Harte (John) of the Isle of Jersey in Channel Islands, UK, Mary Costanzo (Peter) of Williamsville; three grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and one step great grandchild. Ruth was predeceased by her only brother, Robert Blodgett and her first husband, Wil-liam R. Blank.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. A "Celebration of Life" luncheon will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13 at the White Inn in Fredonia. A private burial will be held at the Town of Pomfret's Webster Road Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salvation Army of Georgtown, SC; Pawleys Island Rescue Squad; or St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Pawleys Island, SC.
