Lady Pirates top Westfield

CLYMER (Jan. 23) - Senior Morgan Covey celebrated her 18th birthday in grand style for Clymer, scoring a career-high 15 points, including a big second quarter, as the Lady Pirates (6-7, 4-2) stopped Westfield (4-9), 63-39.

Covey hit three 3-pointers and a two-point basket for 11 points during a 18-9 second quarter when Clymer opened up a 27-14 halftime lead. She also had five steals in a fine all-around performance.

Libby Heil chipped in with six points in the second-quarter run for Clymer.

Heil finished with 12 points and Lauren Dunnewold added 10 points in the winning cause. Jesse Kibbe brought down 15 rebounds and Heil 11 for the Lady Pirates while Sophia DeMarco had 15 rebounds for Westfield. DeMarco also had 15 points and teammate Madison Knapp had five steals.

Sherman knocks off Forestville, 48-16

JAMESTOWN (Jan. 23) - The Sherman Lady Wildcats (7-4, 2-2) took care of the Forestville Lady Hornets (0-10, 0-2), 48-16, at Jamestown Community College.

Sherman jumped out to a 16-2 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. The Lady Wildcats led 29-7 at halftime and 37-12 after three quarters.

Bridget Yaw led all scorers with 14 points for Sherman. Her teammate, Roxanne Toy, added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Bauer shines as CL wins in OT

FALCONER (Jan. 21) - Samantha Bauer capped an outstanding performace by scoring eight of the 12 points in overtime as Chautauqua Lake defeated Falconer, 69-66.

Bauer finished with 26 points, including a 3-pointer that tied the game at 56 inside the final minute of regulation. She scored 21 points after intermission and had four 3-pointers.

In the first meeting between the schools, Bauer was held scoreless by Falconer.

Taylor Phelps contributed 17 points and Lakin Gustafson added nine points for Chautauqua Lake. Phelps grabbed 13 rebounds and Gustafson pulled down 11 in the victory. Sam Gleason and Phelps each had eight assists.

Bayleigh Carter had 19 points, Jenna Fellows had 16 and Kelly Keefe had 15 for Falconer.

Clymer turns back Cassadaga

SINCLAIRVILLE (Jan. 21)- The Clymer Lady Pirates used a 14-5 advantage in the final quarter to turn back the Cassadaga Valley Lady Cougars, 47-43, in CCAA West 2 girls basketball action.

"Clymer played tough and they climbed back in it," Cassadaga Valley coach Christine Krenzer said. "It was a tough game both ways, both teams played hard."

Ashley Repine led all scorers with 31 points for the Lady Cougars (4-10, 2-5). Krenzer said the senior and team-leading scorer spurred the Lady Cougars to a great start, including a 16-6 advantage after one quarter.

"They played really well together in the first half. They looked to Ashley and she was on fire tonight," the coach said of her team. "Unfortunately, in the second half, Clymer shut her down. We just couldn't get her the ball... But overall they played well as a team."

Becca King led Clymer with 21 points, also grabbing six steals. Lauren Dunnewold had 11 rebounds and eight points for the Lady Pirates, while Libby Heil brought down eight rebounds.

Repine added 14 rebounds and four blocks to her effort for Cassadaga Valley.
