Chautauqua Lake 4-1 at Thunderbird Duals

MAYVILLE (Jan. 23) - Section V's Victor went 5-0 Saturday at the Thunderbird Duals, held at Chautauqua Lake High School, while the homestanding Thunderbirds finished the day 4-1.

For Chautauqua Lake, Bryce Rowe earned his 100th win while Bret Babcock picked up his first varsity victory. Victor's Mike Venosa was the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler while the Thunderbirds' Dylan Gross was the fans' choice for MOW.

Winning four matches for Chautauqua Lake were Brendon Rowe, Jake Seaburg, Austin Bourgeois, Derek Ecklund, Armando Arce, Gross and Ben Szymanowski while Tommie Adolph, Kendall Carlson and Nate Wilson all won three matches.

Following Victor and Chautauqua Lake were Grand Island (3-2), Canisius (2-3), Erie's Central Tech (1-4) and Salamanca (0-5).

The Thunderbirds defeated Salamanca, 78-0, Grand Island, 49-36, Erie Central, 73-3, and Canisius, 78-0. Chautauqua Lake's lone loss came to Victor, 58-12.

Making the All-Tournament Team were: Chautauqua Lake's Bryce Rowe (126 pounds) and Kale Gilbert (145), Victor's Alex Samson (106), Tucker Hill (113), Carson Rucker (120), Venosa (132), Jack Kumpf (138), John Garbeck (152), TD Ierlan (160), Mason Everhart (170), Chris Gleasman (195), Ryan Flaitz (220) and Shane Hernandez (285). Rounding out the All-Tournament Team were Grand Island's Stephen Bachman (99) and Zach Breedman (182).

Olean defeats Chautauqua Lake

MAYVILLE (Jan. 20) - Olean defeated Chautauqua Lake, 50-24, in CCAA Division 1 wrestling action at Chautauqua Lake High School.

The Thunderbirds won four of the first five matches, but just one of the final 10, as the Huskies prevailed.

Winning for Chautauqua Lake were Austin Bourgeois (113 pounds), Bryce Rowe (126), Derek Ecklund (132), Eli Woods (138) and Dylan Gross (160).

Bourgeois defeated Olean's Derek Douthit in 2:27, Rowe pinned Kyle Liguori in 15 seconds, Ecklund won by fall over Shane Pancio in 5:27, Woods beat Grant Fox, 6-5, and Gross defeated Keegan Belleisle, 1-0.
