CHRIC announces schedule for first time homebuyer program

Education is the key to preparing families to become homeowners. Chautauqua Home Rehabilitation and Improvement Corp. (CHRIC) announce a new series of Homeownership Education Classes for First Time Home Buyers. The Classes for the Spring 2016 will be held at the CHRIC's Office located in the Old Mayville School Building, at 2 Academy St., Mayville NY, 14757, next to the Chautauqua Family Court. A fee of $75 per individual is charged to cover the credit report, educational material and other costs related to the services provided.

CHRIC Homeownership Classes are offered in English and Spanish, and open to the public in general regardless of income or residence. Participants will receive credit reports, one-on-one individual credit and budget counseling to determine mortgage readiness and options. Prospective homebuyers learn the role of realtors, attorneys, home inspectors, lenders, and are linked to affordable mortgage products, and possible down payment and closing costs financial assistance, if available. Upon graduation from the class, you will receive a Certificate of Completion that is required by most lenders who offer special first-time homebuyer loan products. Individuals enrolled in the First Home Club Program through M&T Bank, First Niagara Bank, or Lake Shore Savings, or have been approved for the First Front Door Program through Northwest Savings Bank are encouraged to attend one of the classes. The First Home Club and the First Front Door Program are designed to assist income eligible first time buyers to cover closing costs.

Individuals attending the class will be entered for a chance to win a $100 Gift Card from Home Depot. Successful new homeowners will receive a $50 Gift Card after closing regardless of income.

Pre-registration is required to attend one of the following courses:

- Tuesday, Feb. 16, Wednesday, Feb. 17 and Thursday, Feb. 18 from 5 to 8 p.m. each night. (must attend all three nights in this series).

- Saturday, April 23, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

- Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
