The Fire Department of Westfield responded to 46 calls for service during the month of January 2016.

Of those calls, 39 were for emergency medical services (EMS), with 19 of those calls being within the Village of Westfield and six of them within the town of Westfield. There were 13 responses to Absolut Care, and one mutual aid response to Portland.

There was one fire call during the month of January which was in the Town of Westfield for a residential alarm activation at 7459 Route 20.

During the January snowstorms the Fire Department of Westfield responded to three motor vehicle accidents on the New York State Thruway. The first response was for a vehicle rollover at mile marker 485.8 westbound. The second response was at mile marker 482.4 westbound for a vehicle off the road. The third response was a multi-vehicle accident with entrapment at mile marker 476.2 westbound which resulted in the westbound lanes of the Thruway being closed for a number of hours.

There were three service calls during the month of January. Those service calls were for a tree down across the road at 7396 Plank Road, traffic control needed from Sherman-Westfield Road to Hardscrabble Road, and wires burning on a pole at Cottage and Main Streets.

January 2016 saw a slight decrease in the number of responses when compared to January 2015. The Fire Department of Westfield responded to 52 incidents in January of 2015, while January of this year saw a total of 46 responses.

With winter still upon us the Fire Department of Westfield reminds our residents to use caution when encountering snow and ice covered surfaces to reduce injuries from falls and motor vehicle accidents. Also, make sure flammable materials are kept a considerable distance from any open flames such as fireplaces.
