Annual ‘Way of the Cross’ in Westfield to be held March 25

February 11, 2016
Westfield Republican

The Westfield Ministerium will again sponsor a gathering on Good Friday, March 25. This annual gathering, called "The Way of the Cross," (a Westfield tradition for 18 years) has been a common way of participating in the passion and suffering of Jesus Christ as a Good Friday service of remembrance. A walking journey with various stops reminds participants of different moments of Christ's passion and journey, and encourages reflection and contemplation.

The gathering will begin at noon on Good Friday, March 25. People are asked to gather at the Moore Park gazebo for opening devotions and the First Station of the Cross. We will then walk to the First Presbyterian Church for the Second Station, and then to St. Peter's Episcopal Church for the Third Station. There will be two options at St. Peter's. Those who have difficulty walking may choose to remain at St. Peter's for the remainder of the Stations. Those who are able to walk can choose to continue to walk. The Fourth Station will be at the corner of Elm and East Main. We will then proceed to the corner of Union and East Main for the Fifth Station. The Sixth Station will be at St. Dominic's Catholic Church. The Seventh Station will be at East Main Street and McDonald's. We will then proceed to the First United Methodist Church for the Eighth Station. The Ninth Station will be at the corner of Franklin and Clinton. The Tenth Station will be at the corner of Franklin and Washington. The Eleventh Station will be at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship. The group will then proceed to the corner of Washington and North Portage for the Twelfth Station. The Thirteenth Station will be at the corner of North Portage and Main. The gathering will conclude with the Fourteenth Station and concluding prayers at the Moore Park gazebo.

People are free to join the gathering and leave at any point. In case of inclement weather, the entire gathering will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. The churches of Westfield invite and welcome all interested people to journey the Way of the Cross with us.
