Doris Skinner

Doris Jean Town Skinner, age 96, of Ripley, formerly of Parkside At North East, died on Monday, Feb. 1at Absolut of Westfield.

She was born on Jan. 7, 1920 in South Dayton, NY to the late Ernest and Blanch (Ryder) Town.

Doris graduated high school in 1936, married Gilbert in 1942 and lived in Ohio and Michigan prior to moving to Ripley and owning the Ripley Market (1962-1972).

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ripley, Order of Eastern Star Columbine Crown Chapter 128, and the Concord Steppers.

Doris enjoyed sewing, quilting and square dancing. In later years she was known for knitting prayer shawls for Hospice patients and baby caps for premie babies.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Skinner; and brothers, Donald and Harold Town.

Doris will be sadly missed by her children, Gary Skinner (Janet) of Ripley and Janis Bond (Philip) of Shiloh, NJ; grandchildren, Sherri Heathof Democratic Republic of Congo, Ward Bond, Christopher Bond, and Richard Bond, all of NJ; great-grandchildren, Michael Sparling, Anta Gueye, Jonah, Josiah, Colleen, Erin, and Nathanial Bond; and a great-great-granddaughter, Adelyn Sparling.

Friends called at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East, Pa. on Feb. 4 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and were invited to attend Funeral Services on Feb. 5 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Ripley, with Pastor Phil Johnson officiating. Interment will be held at Quincy Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Ripley, 20 W. Main St., Ripley, NY 14775. Please send condolences to
