NCCR news: Bones needed, funder ahead

February 18, 2016
Westfield Republican

January was off to a great start with 16 adoptions! That's a good number for a month that is often slow at the shelter. So, thank you to those lucky people who adopted last month! NCCR hopes they all enjoy their new furry friends for many years to come.

The dogs don't get as much yard time or walks in the wintertime for obvious reasons, and this winter the yards have stayed very muddy. The dogs are inside a lot more than usual, so they're going through toys very rapidly, and the shelter is running low. NCCR is in need of medium and large size nyla bones or similar items that can stand up to a LOT of chewing (no rawhides though)! Good quality stuffed toys are useful too for those dogs that don't shred them. During these chilly months, the shelter's learning center building is often the site for an increased number of one on one training sessions, too. Shelter staff and volunteers try to keep the canines' minds as well as their bodies active!

A "fun"draiser is planned this month at Quincy Wine Cellars, 10606 Route 20, Ripley on Feb. 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. . It will be a Cocktails and Color event. They've become very popular lately! For only $40 each, participants will end up with their own 16x16 painting. It will be a lot of fun and all for a good cause. Space is limited, so sign up now! To register, go to www.cocktailsandcolor.com/chautauqua.

The shelter is open Monday through Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. or the third Saturday of the month. Feb. 20 is Open House from noon to 3 p.m. Stop by 7540 N. Gale St. in Westfield to find a next best friend! Call 326-7297 to make an appointment for a different time.
