FALCONER (Feb. 9) - Jessica Covey broke open up the game with about a minute left to enable Clymer to come away with a victory over Falconer (9-7).

Covey's clutch basket snapped a 45-45 tie and Clymer went on to record a 49-45 win for its eighth win, including the last four in a row.

Morgan Covey and Becca King led the Lady Pirates with 15 points each.

Baileigh Carter scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Emma Steele added 12 points in the loss. Amber Micek had 13 rebounds and Kelly Keefe 10 while Micek contributed five steals and Steele three.

Olean beats Lady?Thunderbirds

OLEAN (Feb. 11) - The Chautauqua Lake Lady Thunderbirds (9-11, 6-6) got outscored 21-9 in the opening period and never recovered, dropping a 73-40 girls basketball decision to CCAA West 1 winner Olean (17-1, 11-1) Thursday night.

The Lady Huskies poured in 14 three pointers, led by Bridgid Taylor's six and Sara Pfeiffer's five from beyond the arc. Pfeiffer finished with 21 points, while Taylor had 18.

"We gave up more threes tonight than we did twos," Lady Thunderbirds coach Eric Schuster said.

"We just got beat by a better team tonight, that's all," he continued. "They were really hot tonight... Olean really moved the ball and a lot of credit has to go out to them because they certainly found the open girl and they knocked their shots down.

"We got some looks, we looked to push the basketball. It just didn't work out for us tonight. We missed a lot of easy layups. A lot of the problem was we got down early. It's one thing to be down 8 or 10 but when you're outscored 21-9 in the first quarter, that's deflating."

Olean kept the pressure on in the second quarter, outpointing Chautauqua Lake 20-10 to take a 41-19 halftime lead. The Lady Huskies boosted their advantage to 60-29 after three periods.

Jesse Zenns had a double-double for the Lady Thunderbirds, with 13 rebounds and 10 points. Taylor Phelps chipped in eight points and as many rebounds. Katelyn Fardink had four assists.

Westfield loses to Frewsburg

WESTFIELD (Feb. 11) - Frewsburg's Kaitlyn Blanchard outscored the Westfield Lady Wolverines by herself in a 57-24 victory Thursday in CCAA West 2 girls high school basketball.

Blanchard scored 29 points, including 22 in the first half. During her first-half outburst, she drained five 3-pointers.

"She was making them even when we had good closeouts," Westfield coach Cody Jacobson said.

The Bears led 16-7 after eight minutes and 40-12 at halftime. The visitors went on to outscore the Lady Wolverines, 17-12, in the second half.

Brenna Culbreth led Westfield with nine points, six rebounds and four blocks while Ashley Burgess had four in defeat.

Before the contest, Westfield honored its five seniors in Burgess, Culbreth, Cameron Abby-Mott, Laura Tofil and Taylor Kassman.

"They are definitely going to be well missed," Jacobson said. "They had great attitudes all year. It was a pleasure having them around. Whatever they do in the future, they will be successful."
