Howard Fink

Dr. Howard Earl Fink, Jr. passed away Friday, February 26, 2016.

He was born on November 14, 1930, the son of the late Howard Fink Sr. and Jean (Porter) Fink of Westfield, N.Y. He attended Mayville Central School where he graduated in 1948. He studied medicine at the University of Buffalo where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a B.S. in medicine in 1951. He received a Doctor of Medicine degree cum laude from Syracuse Medical School in 1955. After a residency in radiology in Columbus, Ohio, he served with honor in the U.S. Navy with the rank of Lt. Commander.

He joined the radiology associates group in Harrisburg, Pa., where he worked for 33 years. He was chairman of the department of radiology in Harrisburg Hospital and the Holy Spirit Hospital of Camp Hill, Pa., and also worked at the Polyclinic. He was a member of the Roentgen Ray Society of North America and the American Medical Association. He was president of the American Heart Association in Harrisburg and a member of the Rotary Club for over 25 years.

He married Roberta Welsmann in 1965 and they raised a son and daughter in their home in Harrisburg, Pa. He was very proud of his children and often expressed his love and pride. After retiring in 1995, he and his wife moved to Florida.

Howard always loved to read books and was always ready to converse easily on many subjects. He traveled to many exotic places around the world and enjoyed each adventure.

His vocation allowed him to assist many, many people with healing and he was always ready to do whatever he could to help and comfort them. He studied hard to keep up with all the developing technologies in radiology and was considered the go-to expert who would always be ready to answer your questions accurately and compassionately. His life was lived dedicated to serving others. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle. He was an intelligent, gentle, loving, humble and kind man. He was liked by all he met.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta, of Daytona Beach; their children, Gregory Fink and his wife Michelle of Syracuse; Julie Fink LeBlanc and her husband Jamie of Florida; and four grandchildren, Kevin, David, Zachary, and Adam. He is also survived by his sister Doris Kirby and her husband Marvin of Vermont and their sons, Shaun and Mark.
