Friday, March 11

Beginning at 6:30 p.m., settle in the Reading Room at Patterson Library with your own picnic-style dinner to view "The Danish Girl," a Universal Pictures film. Please call to register at 326-2154.

Saturday, March 12

Ripley UMC Breakfast

Ripley United Methodist Church is hosting an all-you-can-eat breakfast from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Pancakes, sausage, bacon, made-to-order eggs and omelets, home fries, biscuits and sausage gravy, orange juice and coffee will be offered. The price is $7. The breakfast will benefit Friends of the Ripley Library.

Westfield UMC Dinner

Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue will hold a baked spaghetti dinner at the United Methodist Church in Westfield from 4:30 p.m. until sold out. Dine-in or take-out options are available. The cost is $8 for adults or $5 for children 10 and under.

Sunday, March 13

The Preceptor Beta Epsilon will hold its annual St. Patrick's Day Towel Bingo at the Brocton American Legion from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be prizes, a Chinese auction, a 50-50 raffle and refreshments. Admission is $3. Come, have fun, eat, drink and win some towels.

Monday, March 14

A gun safety class starts at 7 p.m. at the Westfield Fish & Game Club on Ogden Road. The class runs until 10 p.m. and resumes March 19 and goes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students must attend both days and be at least 12 years old. More information is available by contacting 326-3218.

Thursday, March 17

First Presbyterian Church, Westfield is hosting a special Celtic Vespers service at 7 p.m. The service is influenced by and based on ancient Celtic worship as well as its modern survivals in such worship communities as the famous Iona Community in Scotland. Celtic Vespers is a beautiful service of evening prayer and will feature responsorial Psalms, prayers from the "Carmina Gadelica," a candlelight procession, a brief incense rite, music based on Celtic tunes and a recitation of The Lord's Prayer in Gaelic.

NCCF Ice Skating Event

Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation is celebrating its 30th year in northern Chautauqua County with a free skate at noon at SUNY Fredonia's Steele Hall. Skate rental is also free. Skating assistance available on the ice. Bring a gift for a dog or cat to benefit Lakeshore Humane Society, Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue and Westfield Stray Cat Rescue.

Dewittville-Hartfield UMC Dinner

Dewittville-Hartfield United Methodist Church will hold another delicious beef-on-weck dinner from 4:30-6:30 p.m. For a $7.50 donation, along with the sandwich, dinner will include a side dish, dessert and beverage. The church is located in Dewittville at Route 430 and Meadows Road. Eat in or carry out.

At 2 p.m., Patterson Library will be showing "The Good Dinosaur."

Wednesday, March 23

There will be a showing of "The Peanuts Movie" at 10:30 a.m. at Patterson Library.

Thursday, March 24

The First Presbyterian Church, Westfield will host a Seder Supper on Maundy Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Church Parlor. There will be Hebrew readings as well as candle lighting. Members and friends of the community are invited to attend. A maximum amount of 30 people will be able to attend so please make reservations by calling the church office at 326-2643.

Friday, March 25

There will be a Good Friday Tenebrae Service 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Westfield. "Tenebrae" is a Latin word for "shadows" or "darkness." The Tenebrae Service has been celebrated by Christians for many hundreds of years. The service consists of readings, congregational responses to readings and sung responses - all of them centering on the events of Good Friday. As the service progresses, the candles will be blown out one at a time until eventually the church is dark.

Saturday, March 26

The Great Easter Egg-scapade Celebration will be held at 10 a.m. in the church parlor of First Presbyterian Church, Westfield. There will be traditional egg dying, an egg hunt and an age-appropriate craft. All kids will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with the Easter Bunny. To register your child(ren) for the Easter Egg-scapade please call the church office at 326-2643.

Stanley Hose Ladies Auxiliary is holding a Wine, Dine & Demos event. This event is by reservation only - so make your reservations now and take advantage of the early bird rate!
