March 10, 2016
Westfield Republican

The Fire Department of Westfield responded to 50 calls for service during the month of February 2016.

Of those calls, 40 were for emergency medical services, with 19 of those calls being within the village of Westfield and 11 of them within the town of Westfield. There were 10 responses to Absolut Care.

There were five fire calls during the month of February.

One of the five calls occurred in the village at the Springwood Apartments, located at 40 Spring St. for a fire alarm activation resulting from burnt food. There was also one call in the town of Westfield for a fire alarm activation set off by a contractor at 8415 Route 20. The Fire Department of Westfield also responded to a vehicle fire on the New York State Thruway at mile marker 480.3. The remaining two fire calls were mutual aid responses to Portland for a structure fire at 6343 Ellicott Road, and a rekindle at the same address.

The Fire Department of Westfield responded to two motor vehicle accidents in the month of February. The first response was for a vehicle rollover at mile marker 485.4 westbound on the New York State Thruway. The second response was for an accident at the intersection of Plank and Felton roads.

There were two service calls during the month of February. Those service calls were for water in the basement at 92 Oak St., and trees and wires down at 8878 Barber Road.

The 50 responses in February were an increase of four responses from January. The Fire Department of Westfield has responded to a total of 96 incidents since the beginning of the new year.

As we begin to transition from winter to spring, the Fire Department of Westfield asks everyone to continue good fire prevention techniques. Also, as you conduct exterior spring cleaning, please make sure your address is visible from the street so fire department personnel can locate your home quickly in the event of an emergency.
