The Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the DAR met March 3 at the McClurg Mansion in Westfield.

The first meeting of the year was called to order by Mercy Warren, regent. The secretary's report was given by Secretary Carol Abell and the treasurer's report was by Mercy Warren in the absence of Treasurer Phyllis Nobel.

Roxanne Wood and Anto-niette Sherman relayed DAR President General's message and other news from the DAR national chair. Members reported on a visit to the Tamassee DAR School in South Carolina, a school and home financed by the DAR, serving children and families in crisis since 1919.

This is going to be a busy year. The nominating committee, Abell, Dawn Urbaney, Sherman and Bonnie Larkin, are preparing nominations for the election of officers in April. DAR is co-hosting the District 8 meeting in October and will attend various conferences this year, including the NYSDAR meeting near Albany and the 125th Continental Congress in Washington, D.C. in June.

DAR is soliciting letters written to our servicemen and women to present for delivery at the Congress, continuing a commitment to the military.

On March 29 join DAR, the Department of Defense and Veteran's Affairs across the nation to recognize, honor and thank the nation's Vietnam Veterans.

The next meeting will be April 7 at the McClurg Mansion.

If you had an ancestor who fought for freedom in the Revolutionary War and would like to join the DAR, call DAR registrar Ubaney at 679-1218.
