A genie, an Arabian Prince, and a sultan visited Ripley Central School on March 17. The famous tale of a street rat who became a prince unfolded as members of the Ripley Drama Club presented "Aladdin."

Students have been working on the production for ten weeks, according to Superintendent Lauren Ormsby. Under the direction of Mrs. Meredith, Mrs. Kondrick and Mrs. Mealer, members of the drama club performed an adaptation of Aladdin created specifically for young performers.

The talented cast included Hailey Dunlap as the lamp salesman, Krista McIntosh as Aladdin, Emma Lindsey as Jasmine, Lawson Ormsby as Jafar, Katelyn Brandt as the sultan, Christopher Lukasiak as Iago, Sydney Hawkins as the Genie, Brooklyn Scriven as Avis, Wayne Swoger as the Tiger God, Amelia Kunkel as the vendor girl, Gavin Eddy as the peasant boy, and many other students as guards, dance troupe members and additional characters.

Members of Ripley Elementary After School Drama Club presented a version of the musical “Aladdin” Thursday evening.

Some of the performers were in the Drama Club's performances of Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella, while this was a pioneer undertaking for others.

The show was highlighted by the songs "Arabian Nights," "One Jump Ahead," "Friend Like Me," "The Magic Carpet," "Prince Ali" and "A Whole New World."

Following the evening performance for parents and friends, cast members paid a visit to the Ripley Board of Education Meeting. The Drama club members entered the meeting singing "Make way for Prince Ali." They performed the song Prince Ali, with all cast members singing and dancing.

Ormsby and members of the board thanked the students for their performance. "I'd just like to say to the teachers and to the performers - what an amazing job!" said Ormsby.
