BROCTON (March 30) - The Brocton Bulldogs (1-0, 1-0) opened their season with a bang against Panama (0-1, 0-1), as they scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to a commanding 17-4 CCAA West 2 baseball win.

"The kids played great," Brocton head coach Rob Fetterick said. "It was a beautiful day to get the opening game in and they came ready to go. They had the gas pedal down from the start of the game to the end."

Kole Wisecarver had a double and two RBI in the Bulldogs' nine-run first while winning pitcher Ryan Johnson chipped in a run-scoring single. Johnson then went on to shut the door over the next three innings to earn the win on the mound.

"It's nice to have a guy like Johnson on the mound to open the season," Fetterick said of his senior hurler, who went four innings, allowing no runs and no hits while striking out nine and walking two. "He truly takes command of the game."

Brocton added four more runs in the second, two in the third and two in the fourth for their 17 runs while Panama scored two in the six and two in the seventh.

Johnethen Spicer went 3 for 3 with two RBI and four runs scored while Charlie Rexford had a single, three RBI, two runs scored and reached on two walks. Also for the Bulldogs, Jordan Krystofiak had a single, two RBI and two runs scored in the win.

For Panama, Noah Eggleston suffered the loss on the mound after he allowed 13 runs on nine hits while walking seven. At the plate for the Panthers, Josh Eddy had a two-run double in the top of the sixth inning.
