Throughout her life she had many interests including home-making, child-raising, gardening, music, badminton, tennis and reading. She kept up a lively correspondence with friends and relatives at home and abroad.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday (April 6, 2016) at 2 p.m. in St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Westfield. At a later date, a burial service will be held in St. John's Anglican Church in St. Catharines, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Paterson Library or St. Peter's Episcopal Church, both in Westfield, would be greatly appreciated.

The family would like to express their warmest wishes to all the people of Westfield who made Mary Shopland's life pleasant for 43 years.

"A life is not a blaze of sudden glory won, but just an adding up of days in which God's will is done."
