Laureate Alpha Pi

Westfield's Laureate Alpha Pi Sorority began their March 21 meeting with a potluck supper birthday celebration including an array of delicious food and desserts. Birthday cupcakes and candy were made by Clara Winkelman. Secret Phi Pal gifts were distributed with the giver's name revealed. New secret sister names were drawn for the coming year. The members will give gifts at he chapter Christmas party and chapter birthday party, with, if desired, small gifts and/or cards throughout the year. Linda Bennett and Elna Meleen provided fun party games and prizes for the evening.

During the meeting, election of officers was held: president: Gwen Haskin; vice president: Elena Marsala; secretary: Tonja Dodd and treasurer, Clara Winkelman. Installation of officers will be at the May 18 meeting.

Voting also took place for the chapter's "Girl of the Year." Her name will be announced at the chapter's Beta Sigma Phi International Founders Day on April 20 at Quagliana's Bark Grill. Members are asked to call Winkelman with their menu choice and cost of the meal. That evening there will be a "Golden Circle" Ritual for a member who has been in Beta Sigma Phi for 50 years.

As there will be no regular meeting April 18, there will be a brief meeting before the dinner at 6:30 p.m.

On April 19, there will be a tailgate party after the voting polls have closed. Friends and family will bring snacks and desserts to Winkelman's on Monday, April 18 or Tuesday, April 19 in the morning.

In Service: It was voted and passed to donate funds from the treasury for the two families who had damage from a fire in Portland, plus for the Westfield Volunteer Fire Department for the WACS trip to the Safety Village in Ashville. Also, Hospicewill be sent a donation as previously approved in the budget.

Many food and non-perishable items brought to the meeting will be taken to the Westfield Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen.

Marsala reported that there were articles in the Dunkirk Observer and the Westfield Republican. These will be give to Bobbiejo Soden for the chapter scrapbook. Soden mentioned the scrapbooks are at the meeting for all to look at.
