Talented young performers will shine when Chautauqua Lake Central School's Music Boosters host the second annual Musical Theatre Showcase, featuring scenes from recent musical theatre productions throughout Chautauqua County. The public is invited to attend the show on Saturday, April 16 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Chautauqua Lake Central School.

The day-long event gives area schools the opportunity to work with theatre professionals and college students during the day and concludes with evening performances.

Participating this year are Cassadaga Valley High School ("The Wizard of Oz"), Maple Grove High School ("Legally Blonde"), Dunkirk Middle School ("Dr. Doolittle Jr."), Brocton ("Band Geeks"), and Chautauqua Lake Secondary School ("Bye Bye Birdie").

During the day participants will rotate through four educational sessions, including a master class and workshops ranging from dance to improvisation. Returning this year as presenters are Ted Sharon, associate professor and head of performance for SUNY Fredonia's Department of Theatre and Dance; adjunct professor and Fredonia alumna Janie Sharon, who will conduct a dance workshop; and current Fredonia theatre student Jill Clough.

Cast members of Maple Grove High School's production of "Legally Blonde" are especially excited to work with this year's master class clinician, Nicolette Hart, who played Brooke Wyndham on Broadway at the Palace Theatre.

With over 20 years of stage and screen experience, Hart (nee Michelle Lipman), grew up in Penfield, N.Y., immersing herself in all things "performer" from a very young age. She earned a degree in musical theatre from the University at Buffalo, then moved to Nashville for an invaluable five-year learning experience on her road to Broadway. Finally, a 2001 audition moved her one step closer to New York City, and in 2002 she moved there. Within months of settling in, she had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to audition for one of three coveted spots as a Harlette, touring and performing with Bette Midler. Nearly 15 years later, Hart still tours and performs with Midler. From 2002-2011, Hart performed in four Broadway shows - "Rent," "The Wedding Singer," "Legally Blonde" and "Million Dollar Quartet" - and toured in shows across the country and around the world.

Hart's film and television credits include "Law & Order," "Lipstick Jungle," "Nurse Jackie," "Cherry Crush," "Veronika Decides To Die," "Prescient," and "Love and Other Impossible Pursuits." Hart moved back to the Rochester area in 2013, while maintaining her presence in New York City, and in 2014 she opened Nicolette Hart Studios, where she fosters the next generation of smart, skilled and confident performers. More information is at Nicolettehart.biz, and sound bites are on iTunes.

Chautauqua Lake Central School is located at 100 N. Erie St. (Route 394) in Mayville, one half mile north of the junction with Route 430. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door. Children age 4 and under are admitted free.
