Boys’ tennis: Westfield perfect so far

(April 18) - The Westfield Wolverines (3-0) kept their perfect season alive Monday with a 4-1 victory over Dunkirk (0-4) in CCAA Division 2 boys high school tennis.

In first singles, Judah Herr stopped Alex Jimenez, 6-1, 6-0 while in second singles, Josh McCord took down Israel Navairo, 6-0, 6-1. Westfield's Josh Kitchen helped the Wolverines sweep singles action as he defeated Jeason Raynor, 6-3, 6-0.

In first doubles, Westfield's Adam Slavik and Marilynn Amborski prevailed over Andrew Vetter and Brandon Katta, 6-0, 6-4.

Dunkirk's lone win came at second doubles where Chris Michalski and Josh Saye topped Pedro Ortiz-Reyes and Jason Babcock, 6-4, 6-4.

Doubles teams lift Wolverines over Fredonia

FREDONIA (April 13) - The Westfield Wolverines used a strong performance from their doubles teams to edge past Fredonia, 3-2, in CCAA Division 2 boys high school tennis.

In first doubles, Westfield's Adam Slavik and Marilynn Amborski held off a pesky Brigham Pratt and Keith Piper, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. The second-doubles team of Pedro Ortiz-Reyes and Jason Babcock defeated Fredonia's Braden Lesch and Travis Langworthy, 6-1, 6-1.

The Wolverines also took third singles, where Josh Kitchen edged out Alex Brown, 7-6, 7-6.

The Hillbillies' two wins came at first and second singles. Neil Gens won over Westfield's Judah Herr, 6-4, 6-0 while Josh Thompson stopped Josh McCord, 6-3, 6-3.

Wolverines blank Cass. Valley in league opener

(April 12)- The Westfield Wolverines had a strong showing Tuesday in their CCAA Division 2 league opener with a 5-0 win over Cassadaga Valley.

In first singles, Judah Herr defeated Nate Maze, 6-3, 6-2. Teammate Josh McCord won his second singles match over Nick Morales, 6-2, 6-1. In third singles, Josh Kitchen blanked Blake Dahl, 6-0, 6-0.

The Wolverines' first doubles team of Adam Slavik and Marilynn Amborski eased past Frankie Coney and Elie Maze, 6-0, 6-0. Finally, at second doubles, Westfield's Pedro Ortiz-Reyes and Jason Babcock stopped Duncan Taber and Andrew Sanabra, 6-1, 6-0.

"Today was people getting off the rust and playing," Westfield coach Matt Eggleston said. "It's nice to be outside, even though it was cold and windy. We are looking forward to having some nice days ahead."
