CV beats Westfield, 4-1

SINCLAIRVILLE (April 27) - Cassadaga Valley ninth-grader Brittyn LeBarron's three-run homer lifted the Lady Cougars to a 4-1 victory over Westfield on Wednesday in CCAA Division 2 high school softball.

Trailing 1-0, Cassadaga Valley finally got its offense rolling in the fifth inning as Savannah Nickerson singled and Alyssa Hahn reached on a base hit. LeBarron followed with a shot to right-center field for a 3-1 lead.

"It was big for her," Cassadaga Valley coach Ken Balling said. "Her batting average hasn't been where she wants it to be. She is our No. 8 hitter in the lineup. She was a pretty happy young lady when she crushed that homer. Hopefully this is a good confidence builder."

The Lady Cougars added an insurance run in the sixth inning as Jewelee Schauman reached on an error and scored on a Nickerson double.

The Lady Wolverines' lone run came in the fourth inning as Laura Tofil singled and scored on a Madison Raynor fielder's choice.

"We played them the first game of the season and won, 2-0," Balling said. "Both were difficult games. I think they have a nice team. They are well coached. Ed LeBarron stepped in and has done a nice job with those girls and they are playing hard."

Hahn was the winning pitcher as she struck out 10, did not issue a walk and scattered four hits. Her counterpart, Tofil, was the tough-luck losing pitcher as she fanned 11, gave up one walk and five hits.
