Volunteers sought for Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy Invasive Species Pull

May 5, 2016
Westfield Republican

The Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy will hold its eighth annual Invasive Species Pull on Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to noon and is in need of volunteers for the event. Volunteers are welcome to come for just an hour or the duration, whatever their schedule permits. This year's pull will target garlic mustard and other invasive species at the Old Fluvanna Road entrance to the CWC's Chautauqua Lake Outlet Greenway Preserve. CWC board director and JCC Biology Professor Becky Nystrom will lead the event, with assistance from Janet Forbes and the Chautauqua County Master Gardeners. The event is well-suited for individuals or groups. Registration is requested but not required. Please email the CWC at or call 664-2166 to register. Participants should dress for working in wetland conditions by wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants, waterproof work boots, gardening or work gloves and insect repellent. If possible, participants are also asked to bring pruning shears, shovels, pick axes, hand saws and heavy-duty garbage bags.
