Beta Sigma Phi’s VanDyke gets Golden Circle Award

Barb VanDyke received a Golden Circle Award for 50 years in Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority at the Founder's Day on April 20 at the Bark Grill. She was presented with a yellow rose, Sorority's gold circle pin and a set of opal earrings as a gift from her chapter sisters. Elena Marsala, as past 50 year recipient, officiated at the ceremony.

Girl of the Year award was presented to Gwen Haskin by Clara Winkelman, last year's award winner. Girl of the Year is voted on by chapter members for a sister who demonstrates leadership, organization and hard work. She received a Girl of the Year trophy, a sorority charm and a yellow rose.

Yellow roses were presented to Winkelman, Carol Best and Judy Stratton by president Haskin for their extra help throughout the sorority year.

The new 2016-2017 International theme will be "We Put Our Hearts Into It." It was read by Stratton. This will be used throughout the sorority year in decorations, programs, etc.

In a short business meeting prior to the night's event, it was mentioned that a donation would be sent to the WACS After Prom committee. Priscilla Malarkey's cousin, a New York City fireman, will send a CD on 911 to be used as a program. A thank you note was received from HOSPICE for the chapter's donation.

In socials: The previous night's tailgate party was fun for friends and families with a great variety of snacks and desserts and prizes.

As one of Beta Sigma Phi's traditions, Mother's Day should be observed each year by the chapter. There will be a breakfast on May 21 at 10 a.m. at the Freeport Restaurant in North East, Pa. Members should call Sylvia Colbey or Lynn Stettson with their reservation by May 14.

The annual family picnic will be held June 4 a Ottaway Park. Co-chairs Best and Carol Brown would like a count of how many will be attending. Let them know at the May meeting.

The next meeting will be May 16 at the Westfield YWCA. This will also be installation of new officers.

Hostesses will be Winkleman and VanDyke
