Ahira Library has exhibit by interior design students

May 12, 2016
Westfield Republican

Ahira Hall Memorial Library, a town of Portland Library located in heart of Brocton near the historic arches, strives to offer cultural opportunities to the community. The L.A.R.C. Program is a series of programs, exhibits and presentations representing Literacy in Arts, Reading and Culture.

The current exhibit curated by Lucy Andrus, a professor at SUNY Buffalo, is called, "Design for Living." The studies by Buffalo State College interior design students opened April 22 and are free for the public to peruse and enjoy during open library hours. This exhibit offers a glimpse of what goes into the early education and training of those who go on to become the designers we depend on to imagine and create the habitats and interiors in which we live, work, shop and play.

Brocton Middle School student Jenelle Grigelevich noted, "The way the information is shared with the process and finished product is a great way to appreciate this art."

Andrus stated, "This type of show can really strike a chord with many of the people in our community as several are involved, either as a business or as personal domestic activity, in doing their own interior/exterior design as self-taught, self-employed folks."

The program appeals to anyone interested in interior design, architecture, art, DIY, construction, home improvement and more.

Design for Living is funded in part by the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Regrant Program, with support from Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the NYS Legislature and administered by the Cattaraugus County Arts Council.

Ahira Hall Memorial Library is a Chautauqua Cattaraugus Library System member. The library looks forward to the opportunity to serve you. The library is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays 10a.m.-5 p.m., Friday 1-5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Call 792-9418 if you have any questions or require further information.
