Woody Keyser Softball Tourney set for June 4-5

May 19, 2016
Westfield Republican

The Woody Keyser Memorial Softball Tournament is slated for June 4 and 5. This year will mark the seventeenth annual event, which is held in Westfield.

The tournament began in 1999 in honor of Woody Keyser. Woody was a beloved member of the Westfield community who dedicated his time coaching and sharing his love of the sport with a generation of youngsters. All proceeds from this tournament go to the Woody Keyser Memorial Fund. Donations from the fund are made in Woody's name to local youth baseball and softball leagues.

Last year the following organizations benefited from the tournament: Chautauqua County Babe Ruth Baseball, Westfield Little League, and Westfield modified high school baseball. In addition, this tournament contributes to the Woody Keyser Memorial Scholarship at Westfield Academy and Central School. Each year one graduating baseball or softball player who exhibits hard work, dedication and sportsmanship is the recipient of this award. Carson Hauser was awarded the 2015 Woody Keyser Scholarship for her commitment to Westfield softball.

Ten-man open modified softball teams are invited to participate in this family oriented- event. There will be a $275 entry fee. The top three teams will receive prize money. First and second place winner will also receive commemorative T-shirts, which are also available for purchase.

To participate in the 2016 Woody Keyser Memorial Tournament, please contact tournament director, Steve Keyser, at 680-0207, or visit for more information.
