Westfield closes regular season with 7-1 victory

(May 16) - The Westfield Wolverines closed out the regular season with a 7-1 victory over Randolph on Monday in non-league high school baseball contest.

Jonathan Wilson and Greg Schroeder shared the duties on the mound. Wilson went four strong innings as he fanned nine and allowed just two hits and as many walks. In a tuneup for the playoffs, Schroeder threw three innings and fanned six and gave up just one walk.

Schroeder also provided plenty of offense as he ripped a two-run single in the first inning to plate Eric Fermier and Wilson. He drove in two more runs in the second inning on a sacrifice fly. Taylor Erwin was the runner on second base, and he scored on the play, on some heads-up baserunning.

Brocton sweeps CL in doubleheader

RIPLEY (May 16)- The Brocton Bulldogs won a doubleheader over the Chautauqua Lake Thunderbirds on Monday in season-ending, non-league baseball action.

The Bulldogs took the first game, 14-0. Ryan Johnson and Steven Krystofiak each clubbed home runs for Brocton. Johnson finished with three RBIs and Krystofiak had two. Charlie Rexford went 3 for 4 with two runs scored, while Kole Wisecarver contributed a 3-for-4 day, scoring a run and knocking in two.

Alec Chelton threw five innings for the shutout, striking out eight batters, walking one and giving up three hits.

Brocton won the second contest, 5-2. Johnson was winning pitcher in that one, giving up two hits and two walks while striking out three in his five innings of work. He also went 2 for 2 at the plate, with three RBIs and two stolen bases. Rexford had an RBI for the Bulldogs while Robbie Gugino scored a run.

Cody Triana had one of Chautauqua Lake's hits, driving in a run. Michael Lisek, who had the other hit, also scored a run and stole two bases.

Bulldogs defeat Catt-LV/Salamanca

CATTARAUGUS (May 13) -Steven Krystofiak pitched six innings on the mound and ripped three hits at the plate, playing an integral role in Brocton downing Cattaraugus-Little Valley/Salamanca, 11-9.

Ryan Johnson also had a big day at the plate for the Bulldogs, smacking three hits, including a triple.

Matt Hanft continued his recent tear for Cattaraugus-Little Valley/Salamanca, going 3-for-4, while teammate Matt Andrews crushed a three-run home run and drove in four. Kyle O'Donnell added two hits in defeat.

Clymer edges Panama, 5-4

SHERMAN (May 13) - Building up a 5-1 lead after four innings, Clymer held on for a 5-4 win over Panama in Division 2 West baseball action.

Jordan Wade had two hits, including an RBI single, and Spencer TeWinkle also recorded a RBI single for the winners.

Josh Summers went the distance in outdueling Chris Robson. Summers allowed seven hits while fanning three and walking five. Robson allowed six hits with five strikeouts and six walks.

Kyle Carpenter had three hits with a double and Dylan Mitchell two hits with an RBI single for Sherman.

Chautauqua Lake routs Panama

PANAMA (May 13) - Devin Pope and Collin Spencer provided the hitting for Chautauqua Lake in a non-league battle with Panama.

Pope had three doubles and a single, and Spencer had three singles and a double in the 14-3 win over Panama.

Mike Lisek was the winning pitcher and struck out four. Lisek was followed to the mound by Kyler Majka and Tyler Meredith and posted 10 strikeouts and no walks.

Lisek added to the winning cause with two triples.

For Panama, Lucas Golden and Ryan Joslin had two hits and Tony Frangione doubled.

Sherman loses to Cassadaga Valley

SHERMAN (May 11) - Leading 1-0 entering the fifth inning, Cassadaga Valley scored nine runs in the final three frames to beat Sherman, 10-1, in Division 2 West.

Adam Goot hit a two-run double in the fifth inning for the Cougars before they added four more runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by Tyler Simpson's two-run triple.

Goot threw a complete-game three-hitter, striking out 15 and walking one. Connor Crabtree had two hits, including a double, while Goot and Simpson also added two hits apiece.

Sam VanValkenburg had two hits, including a triple, while Kolby Parks had the other hit for the Wildcats.

Pirates win in Panama

PANAMA (May 11) - Adam Honey threw six innings and allowed one run while striking out eight and walking two as Clymer beat Panama, 11-1, in Division 2 West.

The Pirates led 6-1 entering the fourth inning before scoring four runs, highlighted by Sam Wiggers' two-run double.

Wiggers finished with two hits and four RBIs while Dylan Neckers had four hits, including a double. Spencer TeWinkle and Honey each had two hits with a double while Garrett Hinsdale had an RBI single in the win.

Nolan Eggleston had two doubles and an RBI, Tony Frangione had two hits with a double and Lucas Golden had two singles for the Panthers, who had Ryan Joslyn strike out nine in a complete game on the mound.

Falconer defeats Thunderbirds

RIPLEY (May 11) - Bryan Gardner scattered four hits over six innings, struck out 13 and helped his own cause with a pair of singles to lift Falconer to a 10-6 Division 1 West victory over Chautauqua Lake.

Brett Payne (double), Trent Ward and Brenton Yager all had two hits for the Golden Falcons (5-10, 3-7), who scored four runs in the first inning and six in the fifth.

Devin Pope and Mike Lisek both had two hits for the Thunderbirds. Lisek also scored three runs.
