YWCA Westfield’s Colt, Schuster earn child development credentials

May 25, 2016
Westfield Republican

The YWCA Westfield is pleased to announce that Emily Colt and Christina Schuster have earned a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential through CDA National Crediting Program for Preschool in February 2016. Part of the CDA requirement was that each employee be working within a preschool program. This is an eighteen-month program offered through the Chautauqua Child Care Council.

Colt has been with the YWCA Westfield for five years and is an Assistant Teacher in the UPK program, as well as working in the Before and After School and Summer School Age Child Care Programs. Participating in the CDA Program was a wonderful opportunity for Emily to gain knowledge that she can apply to working in YWCA Westfield's programs.

Schuster has been employed by the YWCA Westfield for two and a half years and is currently the assistant teacher at the Pre School and Day Care Center, a Group Leader in the After School Program and participates in the School Age Summer Program.

The YWCA Westfield participates in the QUALITYstarsNY program, which is a voluntary quality improvement and rating system for all types of regulated early childhood programs in New York State that serve children from birth through age five. QUALITYstarsNY uses research-based, culturally responsive program standards developed by New York's leading early education experts to support programs to provide children with high quality early learning experiences qualitystarsny.org/.

The YWCA Westfield has two programs participating in QUALITYstarsNY, the YWCA UPK program and the YWCA Preschool Day Care Center. The YWCA Westfield is very fortunate to have this program brought to Chautauqua County and to be one of eight agencies chosen to participate.
