Daughters of the American Revolution meet at McClurg Mansion

The Benjamin Prescott Chapter of The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution met June 2, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the McClurg Mansion, Westfield, NY. Regent Mercy Warren called the meeting to order, and with Vice Regent Antoneitte Sherman, conducted the Opening Ritual. The Secretary's report was given by Carol Abell, and Phyllis Nobel gave the Treasurer's report. Deborah Cenni read the DAR President General's Message and Lisa Sedlmayer read the DAR National Defense article.

Registrar Dawn Ubaney was commended for her work assisting prospective members to obtain their DAR certification. Her efforts were recognized as a new member of the "Soaring High Club" in the Daughter's Magazine, published by the Daughters of the American Revolution in Washington, DC, commending chapters that increased their membership rolls between Jan. 1, 2015 and Dec. 31, 2015.

Some Current Activities: Letters for servicemen and women were collected and will be presented by our representatives at Continental Congress in Washington, DC in July. June 11th the 9th Cavalry Civil War Enactment takes place in Westfield, NY. We are selling Iced Tea and cookies as a fund-raiser for the McClurg Mansion. Fall District 8 Meeting will be held at the White Inn in October. Some members have collected voices for the event and Regent Warren displayed a centerpiece that will be used. A Banner with the chapter name and emblem was presented to the chapter by Bonnie Larkin, which will be displayed at the DAR booth at the Chautauqua County Historical Convention, at Chautauqua Suites in October. Deborah Cenni is collecting coats, blankets and new socks for service veterans.

Our hostess for June was Monica Wells from Indiana. She served beautifully decorated cupcakes and punch as we adjourned.

The next meeting will be July 7, 2016 at the Dunkirk Lighthouse for a tour and an Ice Cream Social hosted by Barb Pietro. Members should bring their favorite ice cream topping.
