Ripley making plans for upcoming Bicentennial

On Friday, July 8 at 11 a.m., Senator Cathy Young will be in Ripley for the unveiling of the monument at the school front lawn.

On Saturday, July 9, following the Ripley Walk Against Breast Cancer beginning at 8 a.m., the Veterans of Valor Memorial dedication at 10 a.m. and the Bicentennial Parade, at 11 a.m., a number of additional exciting events are planned. There will be rides, games, vendors, displays and demonstrations beginning at noon. Event bracelets are $3 at the door. There is a corn hole tournament, a classic car show from 1 to 5 p.m. and a chicken barbecue from 1 p.m. until gone. Entertainment will be provided by the Bruce Johnstone Quartet at 12:30 p.m.; Celtic music with Sue Tillotson and Jim Cunningham at 2:45 p.m., The Country Keynotes at 5 p.m., DJ Nate Fralick from 7:15 to 10 p.m. There will be a renewal of vows ceremony at 4:45 p.m., a memorial lantern release by VFW Post 2769 at 9:30 p.m. and fireworks at 10 p.m.

On Sunday, July 10, there will be a church service at 11 a.m., with a picnic to follow the church service. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to pass and their own plates and silverware. There will be SOME rides there from noon to 4 p.m. at Park Avenue.
