North Shore Arts Alliance opening reception

Please join members of the North Shore Arts Alliance at the opening reception July 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Octagon Gallery at Patterson Library in Westfield.

Dewittville Fire Chief Burl Swanson to speak on Chautauqua Lake rescues

Dewittville Fire Chief Burl Swanson will speak about rescues on Chautauqua Lake at the Thursday, July 21st meeting of the Chautauqua Township Historical Society at 7 p.m. in the Mayville Depot Museum, Rte. 394. The public is invited to attend. He is expected to give safety tips about being around the water.

Chief Swanson was recently honored along with Furlow Francis for their rescue of two ice fishermen last winter off Chautauqua Lake . He is also the recipient of an American Red Cross Hero Award; is a member of the Fire Advisory Board. of Chautauqua County; and a Firefighter of the Year for Chautauqua County.

Of interest to local residents will be his history of how Dewittville obtained its own Hovercraft, part of its life-saving equipment. Further information about this meeting is available by calling Secretary Kathleen Kennedy at 640-722

Ripley Public Library Summer Reading Program

Ripley Public Library is currently engaged in their Summer Reading Program. There are many fun activities for children ages 4-12. Please register at the Ripley Library and join in on the fun. This program continues on until July 30.

2.7 mile run/walk at Chautauqua Institution

Saturday, July 30 at 8 a.m., $25 donation includes a T-shirt, age group awards (10 year brackets). Proceeds benefit Chautauqua Fund. Admission to Chautauqua Institution free for the race. 357-6281. Register online at

Westfield's Friday Night Movies in Moore Park

Everyone is welcome to bring a chair or blanket and enjoy Westfield's Friday Night Movies in Moore Park. The July 15 showing is "Inside Out" sponsored by Dr. Ian Caisley. Show time: as soon after dusk as is dark enough. Parents are reminded that children must be accompanied by an adult and supervised at all times. Enforced smoke, alcohol, and pet free environment. There will be free admission.

In case of rain, the movie will be shown the following night in the park.

Westfield "First" Friday Concert in the Park July 8

Come out on Friday, July 8 to First Friday in downtown Westfield. There will be all kinds of fun events, entertainment and food.

Starting at 6 p.m. in Moore Park will be a concert sponsored by the Westfield Recreation Department. The concert will feature WACS alums Alex Underwood (class of 2011), Colton Myers (class of 2012) and Shawn Wilder (class of 2005).

The concert is free and people should bring their own lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.

Tour of Chautauqua Bike Ride

The 33rd annual Tour of Chautauqua Bike Ride will be held on Saturday, August 13, originating and finishing in front of the Eason Hall, 23 Elm St. Westfield. The mass start begins at 9 a.m. Water and refreshment stops, radio people and sag wagon services are provided. Helmets are required. Patterson Library Octagon Gallery presents "North Shore Arts Alliance Member Exhibit"

The Patterson Library Octagon Gallery is pleased to present the "North Shore Arts Alliance Member Exhibit" July 8- August 5,2016. Over 30 members are submitting their works of painting, photography, sculpture and mixed media. The opening reception is Friday July 8 from 7-9 pm and free to the public. Johnson Estate Winery has generously donated wines for this event. Please come out to support the area artists!!

WMH Auxiliary to raffle donated quilt

The Westfield Quilt Guild has again graciously donated a quilt to WMH Auxiliary to be raffled off to benefit ongoing projects at WMH. The quilt will be on display in the hospital lobby during the week and at the Westfield Farmers Market every Saturday. It will also make an appearance on "First Fridays". Tickets will also be available at other Auxiliary functions and from auxiliary board members. Tickets are $2 for one and $5 for three. The winning ticket will be drawn in the fall.
