Bjork announces Chautauqua County Family Court judge candidacy

Town of Busti resident, Sherry A. Bjork, has announced her candidacy for the Chautauqua County Family Court judge position. She faces fellow Republican and Fredonia resident, Michael Sullivan in the upcoming primary, which will be Tuesday, September 13th.

Having reached the milestone of practicing law for 20 years in of June 2016, Bjork has spent nearly her entire career representing children and families in Chautauqua County. She has a vast array of experience, beginning with her employment as an assistant attorney at Chautauqua County Legal Services, Inc., and continuing in her practice with the firm of Swanson, Ungerer & Bjork until 2004 when she opened her own private practice in Frewsburg. In September of 2015, Bjork obtained employment with the Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services as an assistant social services attorney.

Bjork has been a member of the Appellate Division, Fourth Department Attorney for Child Program since 1997, representing children in neglect, abuse, custody, visitation, paternity and juvenile matters. She has also served as assigned counsel for parents in those same proceedings. In her private practice, she has represented parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and step-parents in all areas of family law, including adoption proceedings. Her practice has also included appellate work, both at the Fourth Department level in Rochester and the Court of Appeals in Albany.

Graduating from area high school, Randolph Central, Bjork has been a resident of Chautauqua County since 1993. She resides in Busti with her husband of 23 years, Randall, and children Reid, Trent, and Aleah who attend Frewsburg Central School. Bjork has served as an attorney coach for the Frewsburg High School Mock Trial Team since 2004, is a board member of the Children's Center Advisory Committee at Family Court, a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Frewsburg, and is a parent volunteer for Frewsburg Area Little League.
