Westfield Fire Department monthly summary

The Fire Department of Westfield responded to 41 calls for service during the month of August 2016. Of those calls, 27 were for emergency medical services (EMS), with 12 of those calls being within the Village of Westfield and eight of them within the town of Westfield. There were seven EMS responses to Absolut Care.

There were seven fire calls during the month of August. Four of the fire calls occurred in the town. There was a fire alarm activation at 6592 Route 20, and another fire alarm activation at 8305 Route 20. The other two fire calls in the Town of Westfield were for wires smoldering/burning in trees at 7948 Route 5. There was one fire call in the Village for a gas leak at 238 East Main Street. There was also a fire call on the New York State Thruway at mile marker 477.8 eastbound for tractor-trailer brakes on fire. The last fire call for the month of August was for mutual aid to a mobile home fire at 7107 Finley Road in Portland.

The Fire Department of Westfield responded to two motor vehicle accidents in August. Two calls occurred in the Village, one at 108 Elm Street, and a car versus bicycle at East Main Street and Brewer Place.

There were two service calls in August. The first was for a local transport from 40 Spring Street to the emergency room at Westfield Memorial Hospital. The second service call was a wash down of Barcelona Harbor Market parking lot due to a ansul system activation.

There were three false alarm calls in the month of August. All three were at Westfield Veterinary, 13 Elm Street. With expected warm conditions in the month of September the Fire Department asks everyone to be very vigilant with any fire source. Please make sure that no outside fire is left unattended, and do not throw any lighted cigarettes out of a moving vehicle into the brush.

The 41 responses in August was a significant decrease from last month's total of 57 responses. The Fire Department of Westfield has responded to a total of 355 incidents since January 1, 2016.
