WESTFIELD - Sonia J. Notaro, 88, formerly of 161 West Main St., Westfield, died Friday (Sept. 16, 2016) at Absolut of Westfield.

She was born September 4, 1928 in Massillon, OH, the daughter of the late Elijah and Luella Gardiner Smallwood.

Sonia owned and operated Notaro's Antique Shop in Westfield with her husband for several years. Sonia and her husband Joseph also had owned and operated a dairy farm in Dewittville for over 25 years.

She was a member of the Westfield First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, she was a former member of the Dewittville Hartfield United Methodist Church where she also had sung in the choir and was a member of the board of trustees, she had been a member of bowling leagues at the former Harbor Lanes in Mayville, and she had been a member of the Chautauqua County Corvette Club.

Sonia enjoyed cooking, refinishing furniture, and she enjoyed working on the farm in earlier years. In later years she enjoyed being with and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda (Daniel) Johnson of Holly Hill, FL; one son, Joe (Cathy) Notaro Jr. of Mayville; two grandchildren, Joel (Joy) Notaro of Chisago City, Minn., and Cody (Alison) Notaro of Shortsville, NY; two step grandsons, Scott Johnson and Brian Johnson; four great grandchildren, Brooklyn Notaro, Shelby Notaro, Emerson Notaro, and Quinton Notaro; two sisters, Janice (David) Hunt of Toronto, and Karen Smallwood of Grants, NM.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph T. Notaro Sr, whom she married July 18, 1946 in Angola, NY and who died November 24, 1999; her sister and brother in-law Juanita (Olen) Winters.

The funeral service was held at 12:00 pm (Noon) Sept. 21 at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. Rev. Donald Carlson officiated. Burial was in the Westfield Portland Union Cemetery.

The family received friends from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Sept. 20 and for one hour prior to the funeral service on Sept. 21 from 11:00 to 12:00 at the funeral home.
