Fredonia Wind Ensemble to perform Oct. 8 in King Concert Hall

The Fredonia Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Paula Holcomb, opens the school year with exciting music of the world that includes "Folk Song Suite," by English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, and "Symphony in B Flat Major," by Paul Hindemith from Germany, on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. in King Concert Hall.

"Symphony in Brass," by American Eric Ewazen, will be presented by graduate conducting student David Turken.

The musical tour will conclude with a celebration of a new era with Cuba through the passionate rhythms in "Cancion de Geste" by Leo Brouwer, a Cuban composer, conductor and guitarist.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Smart Driver Safety Course

A Smart Driver Safety Course, sponsored by AARP, has been set for October 17 & 19, Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 1pm to 4:15pm, hosted by Heritage Village, in Seeley Auditorium on the upper campus, Gerry, NY. Both stairs and an elevator are available to gain access to the basement level auditorium.

Taking the course reduces a driver's insurance premiums up to 10%, and may eliminate up to 4 points from their driver's license.

The course is open to drivers of all ages, though it is oriented toward age 50+ drivers.

The course focuses on such topics as changing road conditions, technological advancements, perception, eyesight and hearing issues, medical issues, intersections, roundabouts, right-of-way, avoiding distractions, scanning, the 30-second following principle, some state laws, and more.

The cost is $25 for non-AARP members, and $20 for members. Payment must be made by check or money order, payable the 2nd class night. Participants must bring their New York State driver's license.

To register for the course, please call the instructor, Doug Arters, at 716-490-3880. If there is no answer, please leave a message, and your call will be returned. The class size is limited to about 25 participants, so interested drivers should call as soon as possible.
